Not all bands arrive on the scene welding heavily distorted punk chords aiming to make as much noise as possible to get noticed, some tease out material and keep their ever-increasing fanbase on tenterhooks until they feel ready. In case you haven’t guessed, Glasgow’s ambient-pop duo VanIves fall into the latter category.
It’s almost a year to the day since their debut single ‘Positive’ announced their arrival, and with only a handful of well-received live shows and releases throughout 2018, everyone was wondering what was next.
Turns out it was ‘Pyramids’, another gorgeous pop single providing us with a dreamy glimpse into their recently released EP Let The Current Find Us. The track is rammed full of loops and samples which all stack together majestically like careful constructed sand stones in Giza.
Both members bring their own unique stylings as Stuart Ramage’s soft vocals, which turn with each dropping beat, takes your mind to another world with such poetic lyrics, matched by a backdrop of masterful production from Roan Ballantine.
The talented and self-confessed surfer wannabes from SW Scotland continue to create thought-provoking art without the pretence, making music accessible to even the harden indie/rock fan, like myself, and for that they must be commended. - DC
VanIves debut EP Let The Current Find Us can be purchased on vinyl here along with tickets to their just-announced King Tuts gig on August 8th.
