A year can be a long time in music; singles drop, EP's collated, music videos captured or just relentless gigging. Some bands fire out material, others wait, save up and don't unleash until it's exactly what they want - step forward, The Morning Retakes.
Finally we get our first release of the year with the snarling, heavy-rock embrace of Pavement, and yes, it was worth the wait.
TMR have returned packed with more attitude, full of pent-up angst, but the same knack for an infectious melody.
You guessed it, recorded at 7West Studios in Glasgow, it sees the The Morning Retakes take a turn towards a darker, heavier sound - with the Madden/Mitchell dream team coming up trumps with their trademark influences and producing expertise immediate.
Pavement is dirty, grungey, down-right filthy - and we love it.
Despite the new found punk direction, there are still similarities with previous tracks Neon Lights and Ain't You Been Told, like fierce solos, only this time heavier; like Jake Davies' gravelly vocals, only this time deeper and with added bite.
Since making the move through to Glasgow, you get the feeling the 4-piece are aiming to step it up a notch - this menacing track will do their burgeoning reputation no harm whatsoever. Expect big things during 2019.
