The Fences - Got Off

Updated: Nov 23, 2019

The Fences are a band we’ve been following for over a year now, and like every new band they’d had their ups and downs, trying to pin their sound, finding their audience, but with latest single ‘Got Off’ we hear the band hitting their groove.

The indie-outfit are now shaping up as a tight 4-piece, after lead guitarist, Gabriel Kielty, took up vocals following the departure of their former frontman. A decision not taken lightly, however on first outing, it feels like he's is up for the job. Gabriel freely admits he's still to find his own style as a vocalist, however given time to develop i’m certain he’ll grow and grab the opportunity to lead with both hands.

The release itself starts off with a crashing crescendo of crunching guitars and the thumping of drums, which underpin the entire 4mins, giving the fuzzy vocals a platform to shine. Marking a distinct change in their musical style from previous releases, ‘Got Off’ belts along at a frantic pace, full of energy and ends with a thrilling guitar solo. Make no mistake, these young boys might still be rough round the edges, but there is raw talent in there.

The boys have been busy with a host of gigs across Glasgow, Edinburgh and of course in their hometown of Clydebank where they recently played to raise money for some great local charities, something to be admired in today's musical climate. Looking to build upon the momentum from this latest release, there are rumours of two new singles due in the coming months - we're excited to see their next move and so should you! - DC
