Time to rejoice as Edinburgh's favourite post-punk band, The 10:04s, are back...but not quite as you know them. They return armed with a new single, and a flawless 9-track album.
Forming over 6 years ago, their album A Common Wealth is an accumulation of their best work, with some tracks adapted as time passed and their inspirations changed. For example, many songs draw from life affirming bands such as Nick Cave, Interpol, and The National.
It's natural and somewhat expected for any band's key influences to evolve, but it's rare to see them come out the other end with such an impressive and cohesive collection.
Concentrating on lead single, Harlequin, which see's the band at the peak of their new musical direction, with a mature, controlled and much more intimate sound. The track flows gracefully, underpinned by haunting lyrics such as "Bodies in the dirt/nobody needs to know/nobody wins a war" portraying a dark, emotional state, but ultimately leading to an uplifting finale as the song enters it's final third.
There's a beautifully shot video to accompany Harlequin, see below, and as it draws to a close, you'll notice The 10:04s highlight SAMH, a charity who i'm sure most of you are familiar with, but nevertheless they deserve to be highlighted as they continue to do great work across Scotland.
