King Tut’s is a right of passage for most bands; some support, some go straight into headlining, but only a few rising bands sell out. Kirkcaldy’s Shambolics, are the most recent addition to the ‘Sold Out’ list.
With the raucous crowd suitably warmed up by some of King Tut’s finest lager and blistering support from The Morning Retakes, The Vanities and Colour Trap. The young 4-piece strolled on stage, as yells of “‘Mon the Sham” bounced of the sweaty walls, and wasting no time they dived straight into new track, My Time is Now. The opener not only set the tone of the evening with it’s urgency and pacy drum beat, but it also felt like an early statement by a band, full of self-belief, ready to take the next step.
The anthemic Chasing a Disaster lead to the first mass sing-a-long of the night, as they whipped the Glasgow crowd into a frenzy. The band were clearly in their element, with massive smiles and dancing throughout - mainly from guitarist, Jordan, who was also sporting an iconic early 90s Scotland footy top.
As the night went on you could feel a real sense of community in the room, everyone seemed to know everyone, there is clearly a strong connection between the band and their loyal fanbase, something all bands aspire too. They went on to finish their terrific set with live favourite When She Goes Home, as bodies and lager were flung skywards. Having spent more of 2018 in the studio than on tour, it was important that Shambolics showcased their recent hard work, while reaffirming how good those early releases really are. The balance between old and new was perfect, everyone here tonight was left in little doubt that the hard work will soon see them reach new heights. With festival appearances still to come, hints of a mini UK tour and new material just around the corner, 2018 could end up being the most pivotal year for these 4 lads from Fife.
