This Feeling's Big in 2020 // Glasgow

17th Jan @ Broadcast, Glasgow

Paris Street Rebels | The Lutras | The Rah's | Sypres | The Asuras

Champions of the UK’s new music scene, This Feeling, once again returned to Broadcast with another stellar lineup packed with bands tipped for big things in 2020.

First band,The Asuras, take to the cosy broadcast stage. Kicking off the night with bit of rock and roll. Lead vocalist Connor Hepburn, flanked by two guitars sounded great with ear-catching harmonies throughout, instantly sing-a-long choruses and superb solos in the mix. Biggest cheers of the set came for latest single 'Age Gap' and the indie-belter 'Best Friend's House'. We're off to a flyer!

A big crowd now floods down the narrow, spiral staircase for new local favourites, Sypres, you can sense the anticipation - this is what big in 2020 is all about! Plenty cheers and whistles welcome them to the stage, feeding off this energy, they tear through their set at sonic speeds, barely missing a beat. Tonight they prove why they are leading the next wave of Glasgow fuzzy-punk, with Keira McGuire and Emily Downie sharing vocal duties, backed by the impressive Jude on Bass and Alex on drums - these kids have it all! New single ‘Fake ID’ whips the crowd into a frenzy, while they end with our anthem of 2019 ‘otherside’ which brings complete carnage!

Next up we have East-Lothian indie rockers, The Rahs, who dived into a great opening track, reminiscent of early Kasabian and Primal Scream. As the set progressed, they weren’t afraid to slow the pace down, by sprinkling their set more melodic, mid-tempo numbers - showcasing the bands full talent. Lead singer and guitarist, Jack McLeod, was at his best, as his powerful vocal performance captivated the crowd throughout. With tours already lined up, and with a debut album due, these guys will be ones to keep an eye on during 2020.

The Lutras bring a different stye, a certain swagger and find their groove from the get go! Taking the packed crowd back to the roots of rock ’n’ roll, especially bassist, Danny Heron, looking great with the flairs and mullet and the hand painted cello style bass. A band with influences that transcends generations, both the young and old lapped up this straight-up Rock. The lads have a striking stage presence and great to see them travel up from Dumfries to thrill the Glasgow crowd. Finishing on a high with their latest pulsating single ‘Fight Night’ - another band to get your claws into!

On come the Paris Street Rebels boys full of energy, a real punk-rock delight. They immediately get the crowd bouncing, with their own blend of fierce ‘70s punk mixed in with more recent heroes like Libertines and The Cribs. Wasting no time, the Fife outfit rip through their set, with new single ‘Villian’ sounding heavy, grungy but mixed with the familiar PSR ‘rebels charm. Last year’s highlight single ‘Kings of Balado’ is in the mix for track of the night, a story familiar to many old school T in the Park goers in the crowd. The set briefly pauses, as Guitarist, Grant Malcolm, mutters “It’s a jam" - which starts with a beefy base line and builds up to another sing along chorus. If that's a jam we’re looking forward to the end result!

Last song ‘Nightcrawler’ is yet another frantic punk rock number, which brings the blistering set to an end. A great night for This Feeling’s Big in 2020, bringing together a variety of bands and fans, with the sold out crowd left in no doubt that the Scottish scene is in rude health! - GR
