Back in 2018, Rubian released first single, ‘Start Again’, and since then the Glasgow-based outfit have gone on to make a real impression on the Scottish scene with gigs at the legendary King Tuts as well as a number of festival appearances, most notably at Vibrations, Butefest and Gig in the Goil. It’s easy to see why, with a number unreleased pop/rock gems, a charismatic lead vocalist in Cheryl Risk and a tight band of musicians holding it all together.
One of the aforementioned gems is new single, ‘Cinnamon’, where we hear Rubian reminisce about young love and reminding us that those earlier moments and memories rarely leave you. The track itself opens with a classic indie riff, and a driving drum beat which makes way for more melodic pop vibes as Cheryl’s striking voice navigates you through the various tempo changes and rock breakdowns which creates that unique "Rubian" sound.
As 'Cinnamon' clocks in at over 4mins, it gives the band plenty of space to explore their diverse musical influences, moving from the indie backdrop during verses to a more dynamic rock feel for a killer chorus.
A belter you'll have spinning round your head for days.
With the talk of further singles and a possible EP before the year is out, we can see the 4-piece going from strength to strength as they continue to carve their own sound and grow with each live performance. Expect a busy end of 2019 with more live dates, building up to a breakthrough 2020. - DC
