Pizza Crunch - Fraud

Updated: Mar 1, 2020

There seems to be no end of talent coming from the West of Scotland, with the wonderfully named, Pizza Crunch, next to announce themselves, as the Glasgow music scene continues to inspire and drive new artists.

Named after the fine Scottish delicacy when you take a half a pizza (traditionally margherita) and lower it into a frier, which was a something of a taste sensation during my school lunch in the early 00s (pre-Jamie Oliver). However, in stark contract, their debut single Fraud, proves the young outfit to be anything but fried, as the track moves along with a knowing swagger and a pulsating post-punk heart.

Lyrically, Pizza Crunch tackle the transition from the safe student life to the unknown and unpredictable real world, where the 9-5 daily grind sets in. Lyrics such as “Shut your mouth and nod / Do what you are told / Head down do your job / You fraud”, will no doubt resonate with many.

Recorded at the home of Glasgow's DIY punk scene, 7 West studio, and instantly you hear the garage sound they are so experienced at producing, with a thrilling guitar solo chucked in to great effect.

With a successful single launch and a Valetine’s day party at The Priory under their belt, Pizza Crunch now look forward to a supporting slot with The Velvet Hands and what is shaping up to be an exciting year for the young band.

It's an encouraging debut, leaving us excited for more, like the need for water after a greasy chippy...
