Our hometown of Edinburgh has always been known for it's varied music scene from pop to heavy metal, there's something for everyone. Now synth-pop fans have their new favourite band in the shape of Kendama, who have recently released their debut single, Wake.
Armed with a delightful knack for a pop melody, duo Stuart Edgar and John Davidson, who were performing as EDGR last year, leave nothing to chance with their first single as they appoint top Scottish producers Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic, Fatherson, We Were Promised Jetpacks) and Callum Wiseman from Glasgow band PRIDES. Through-out the track you can hear how they draw inspiration from some of the aforementioned bands, most notably with the soaring keyboard driven chorus.
Wake is the perfect debut single with an explosive intro, strong vocals and more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box. Although Kendama are only in their infancy, the early signs are more than encouraging.
Looking to build upon this release, Kendama are the middle of a mini-tour which sees them rock up at Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh on Thursday the 7th of March [tickets] - DC
