Glasgow's favourite live band Gallus have just released their latest punk-soaked indie single Split, and much like their live shows - it's full of energy and attitude.
Split follows up on their well-received debut single Nice, and thankfully it packs a similar punch. There's a barrage of guitars and pounding drums, but it's the captivating vocal performance by Barry Dolan which steals the show.
The sheer visceral despair and dejection is excellently conveyed by Barry, most notably as the track climaxes with the line "when will you realise that things are never going to be the same!". Despite, at times, bleak lyrics, the fun factor still shines through, we expect this to be a live favourite!
Throughout the track it becomes apparent that influences stem from 90s US punk, especially the melodic Greenday-like choruses and chord changes. It's this kind of difference which sets them apart from others in the Glasgow scene.
Continuing with tradition, Gallus will no doubt be ripping up venues across the land before the year is out, but the big two will be when they support their good friends The Dunts and the Heavy Rapids, at the King Tuts and Garage G2 respectively. Fast-forward twelve months, don't be surprised to see Gallus topping such gigs.
