Fiendz YT - Tesco Elvis

Updated: Feb 15, 2019

Arriving like a Tasmanian Devil (more Loony Tunes than little marsupial) into the Scottish scene, Fiendz YT are the new kids on the block. Bursting out the doors of 7West studios in Glasgow with their debut single Tesco Elvis in hand, they waste no time getting heard.

Whenever we speak to bands the most common piece of advice is “ It's key to start a band with your mates” and Fiendz YT are very much that. The young 4-piece are just at the very start of their musical journey, forming at the tale end of 2018.

Already on their third name! (formally Fiendz, then Fiendz UK - blame some complicated copyright law), the garage-punk band are a breath of fresh air in today's musical climate, with their playful attitude, who are more than happy to crack jokes at their own expense.

Tesco Elvis is a frantic punk track which sees a dynamic vocal performance from frontman Ross Mills as he jumps from the Sprechgesang-style of Eddie Argos (Art Brut) to the raw intensity of Joe Talbot (Idles). I suppose it was only a matter of time before we saw the next wave of young musicians inspired by one of the the most important bands of the past few years. We're all for it!

The protagonist throughout Tesco Elvis, is a character we're all familiar with. The kinda person who reckons their "cock of the walk", when the reality is very different. On the other hand, perhaps they genuinely work in Tesco and are literally the best check-out assistance there is?

At times it's full of humour, at times it's cutting - but above all it's captivating.

With a single launch and several hometown supporting gigs under their belt, Fiendz YT fly the nest on March 1st as they play their second gig in the Capital at Cabaret Voltaire. Get involved, tickets are the same price as a couple packs of frozen fish fingers and a bag of potato smileys. - DC
