Perthsire’s newest alt-rockers Dead Fiction have been quietly going about their business, with a string of bold, hard-hitting singles, in the lead up to their debut 5-track EP due later this month, latest single Crushed by the Weight racks up the anticipation even further.

Forming barely a year ago, the 3-piece consisting of Craig McLeod (guitar and vocals), Ruaridh Kidd (bass) and Robbie Boyd (drums) all of whom have previously played in local bands, are now solely focused on sharing Dead Fiction with the masses.
The track itself opens with a slow, Idlewild-esque riff leading to an eruption of pounding drums. Drenched in heart and sincerity, Craig’s ready-make rock vocals then take centre stage as the melody surges on to new heights. Lyrically, we hear their discontent at the cash-centric society we live in and how the pressure of it affects individuals; their friends and families.
As it develops you hear influences range from fellow Scots Biffy Clyro and Admiral Fallow, but with their own mix of stadium-sized rock, distorted vocals and personal lyrics.
Dead Fiction are the epitome of a DIY outfit, with all three members involved in the writing, recording and production - which all take place within Robbie’s converted studio.
Such approach relieves any pressure, allowing the boys to be as creative as they want and produce the music they clearly love to make.
You certainly can’t knock their ambition for marrying big sounding rock with smart, engaging lyrics, I've no doubt we'll be hearing a lot from them during 2019.
