Atlas Run continue to sprinkle 2018 with more emotive indie as they return with their third single of the year, Problems. This sub-3min gem ensures the band continue along a similar path paved by fellow Scots Fatherson and The XCERTS.
Bursting on to the scene back in 2016, they quickly garnered critical acclaim from national radio and press outlets for their blend of infectious indie hooks and honest, relatable lyrics. The following two years has seen the Glasgow based 4-piece forge a dedicated following thanks to a steady stream of top singles matched with accomplished live shows.
Latest single Problems sees frontman Paul Howe’s open up on strained and difficult relationships, the feeling of helplessness when you see loved ones struggle. At the heart of the track he utters the line
“when you thought this love would never end/but sometimes you just can’t pretend..”
which all other lines rotate around, highlighting the sometimes false inner belief that love can repair all problems, when often it's best acknowledging when to cut free.
Despite the subject matter, the upbeat indie hook acts as an enjoyable contrast, as Paul’s prominent Scottish twang helps achieve a more intimate connection, a common theme running through the band’s back catalogue.
