Returning to home soil, the Vistas put on a storming show at the Caves to prove once more they are an indie force to be reckoned with...
Before the main event, supporting Vistas tonight were the equally impressive The Motion Poets. Since hearing latest single A Girl Like This, I was eagerly anticipating what else they had to offer - turns out there’s plenty. On said single, you can see clear Arctic Monkey (pre TBH&C) influences along with a thumping Meg White-esque drum intro. Lead singer, Jonah Stead, prowls and growls his way through the track, tapping into a new side of TMP we’ve yet to see. They pack a 30mins set with tracks such as Tar, One Too Many and a well received cover of indie classic Electric Feel. Not short of confidence, Jonah, steals the show with his energetic stage presence and promise of free EPs for the best dancers! Sadly we missed out. A band to keep an eye on.
Vistas arrived on stage, flanked by neon tubes, immediately wiping the home crowd into a frenzy. The pace barely dropped throughout, as they rattled through crowd favourites like Retrospect, Strong Swimmer and Sign Language. Following up on the likes of Circa Waves and Sundara Karma, Vistas’ high energy indie clearly resonates with their dedicated following. None more so than latest single Calm, a blistering summer anthem in the waiting. It’s worth noting the new tracks on display tonight were well received and sit nicely amongst their current back catalog. Fingers crossed for a new EP this year.
This was the Vistas biggest Edinburgh show to date, with a steady venue progression each time - it’s clear the momentum is starting to build. Left of the stage, Guitarist Dylan Rush, cuts a captivating figure - cleary loving every minute of the Vistas' rise.
The night finishes with chants of “one more tune”, the boys didn’t disappoint, returning to play Hold Me. Que Crowd surfing, some impressive indie moshing and mass singalongs. It was difficult not to be impressed and leave with a smile.
With slots at BBC Biggest Weekend in Perth and Summer Sessions in Glasgow, 2018 could prove to be a pivotal year for the band.
