This Feeling: Sway // Sneaky Pete's // 24th Nov

Updated: Jan 8, 2019

Headliners Sway capped off their three day This Feeling tour with a blistering set full of heart and energy.

On (and off stage) you get the sense that SWAY are one of the closest bands, fully trusting in each other's ability - for example the shared vocals by Craig Milroy and Matt Aitchison throughout their set. Each song is laced with emotive lyrics which pulls at the heart string, from the despair on Another Lover to the adrenaline rush of To be A Man.

The climaxing few minutes of the late-80s influenced, dream-pop track Haven is a thing of euphoric beauty, as the ensuing 'moshing' can attest to - I've yet to hear a better drumming performance this year.

Backed with a dedicated following and supported by local label Good//Careful, it won't be long until they explode all over everyone's playlists [they're already on ours!].

Must Listen: Haven

SPYYN

What else can we say about this lot, just another assured performance form one of Edinburgh’s top bands, the indie 4-piece keep getting better with every performance (and I’ve seen most of them!). Such reliability on stage for a band still within their first year is not to be sniffed at. Chatty as always, they charmed the audience with their smartly constructed indie, psychedelic-pop.

Must Listen: DIRTY DISCO

CAEZIUM

Straight up, no messing Rock ’n’ Roll with these guys, massive riffs and thunderous solos. However, with such a loud sound, and even louder shirts, it’d take a powerful vocal performance to match it, but with Frontman Jody Butler, there is no such problem. Cutting a commanding figure, his powerful set of lungs went from grooving like Hendrix to hard-rocking Andrew Stockdale-style. Impressive.

With a debut album already released this year and another penned for next year, CAEZIUM are clearly comfortable in their sound and ready to take it to the next level.

Must Listen: Thrilla in Manila

Words: David Campbell
