ST.MARTiiNS // Sneaky Pete's // 18th May

Updated: Dec 2, 2018

Bringing their dark and brooding vibes to Sneaky Pete’s on a summery Friday evening were Dundee’s ST.MARTiiNS, supported by singer-songwriter Zoe Graham.

The night was kicked off by the excruciatingly beautiful Zoe Graham promoting her second E.P. Hacket and Knackered. Zoe's laid back presence on stage and beautiful lyrics had the crowd captivated from start to finish. Our personal favourite being Anniesland Lights, a love letter to ones hometown we can all relate to. Bringing variety to her set, Man with the Sunken eyes, brings a more upbeat with 90's feel good vibes, so good you can’t help but shimmy along.

What is immediately striking from watching Zoe in action is how she manages to manipulate and loop her voice, keyboard and guitar with footwork Lionel Messi would be proud of. Providing layer upon layer, giving her sound more depth than should be possible. Charming both on and off the stage, Zoe certainly won over more fans by the end of her set. We can’t wait for further shows and releases.

Up next ST.MARTiiNS, a rare animal in today's music scene - creating music with such originality, making comparisons nigh on impossible. A reviewer’s nightmare. The same can’t be said for their live show…

The duo start with Melvin and 2017 release Othr Girls, an electronic gem which gets the crowd moving before jumping into recent single, No It’s All Over. This latest track is a slight musical switch, with it’s stuttering, hazy beat, matched with themes of heartbreak. The brooding undertones continued with About U, providing a showcase for the varied vocal talent of lead singer, Katie Lynch.

The night ends with the duo’s biggest track, do ur words, with it’s bubbling energy which soon erupts, turning Sneaky Pete’s into an indie-pop dance off. As the track builds, influences of early Two Door Cinema Club come to the fore, but with Katie’s distinctive, angelic voice.

With further singles no doubt due later in 2018, those making the trip to see Electric Fields should pen ST.MARTiiNS near the top of their Must See list.
