MM | NEW MUSIC WEEKLY 05

Updated: Apr 12, 2019

Every week we are treated to some incredible releases from Scotland and this week is no different. All released within the last two weeks - this might be our most eclectic collection yet!

PYRO - Tear Me Down

Where: Bathgate

When: 31st March

Having just signed to indie label Vadana Records, PYRO have gone on to release their biggest sounding single to date with 'Tear Me Down'. Lead vocalist and drummer Connor shows maturity beyond his years, as he opens up about previous relationships with some hard-hitting lyrics. Cameron again comes up trumps with a series of well-structured riffs - it seems having the talented Mark Marrow again on production duties was another masterstroke.

Scarlett Randle - Her

Where: Glasgow

When: 20th March

Since moving to Glasgow Scarlett Randle has started to draw attention with a number of beautiful releases and engaging live performances. The gentle and moving, Her, sees Scarlett capture her heartfelt lyrics within what seems a simple song structure, but as the listens increase, further exquisite layers are revealed - now, that takes real skill.

Vanives - Float

Where: Glasgow (Usually out in the wilderness)

When: 27th March

Those who follow us across social media will know we've been massive fans of this pair ever since they sneaked out into the music world last year. Since then we've had an EP release on vinyl and sold out shows. Latest single 'Float' has been a live favourite and here we see it arrive fully produced in all it's glory as Roan Ballantine and Stuart Ramage continue to release some of the most striking music in Scotland. They've recently been joined by drummer extraordinaire Kyle Sharp, so we fully expect them to constantly adapt and evolve, especially as a live outfit.

Fabric Bear - Pop Song

Where: Edinburgh

When: 29th March

What a difference a year makes! 'Pop Song' arrives as Fabric Bear awake from hibernation ready to take on the world - with a stuttering 2018 behind them and a fresh musical outlook, they're back on top form. If tipped by many to be the pick of the bunch amongst their peers, then 'Pop Song' is the evidence - a glorious slice of melodic pop. While punk-rock runs riot across Glasgow, Fabric Bear look set to reinvigorate the current indie scene.

BEAUZ & SIIGHTS - Never Gonna Regret U

Where: Glasgow/Dublin

When: 29th March

Scottish/Irish duo SIIGHTS are back with a new dose of up-beat pop, only this time they've teamed up with American DJs Beauz. It follows on from a massive 2018 which saw them sell out King Tuts and release several huge singles (over 100k Youtube streams). In typical SIIGHTS style the track centres around personal lyrics as they open up to the listener, backled by amore controlled electronic-pop feel. Expect further live shows and collabs throughout 2019.

folda - you won't

Where: Edinburgh

When: 29th March

Masters in all things dark-pop, latest single 'you won't' sees folda continue along this unique path, but on this occasion with a more uplifting arrangement. The addition of distorted vocals and a fearless production really brings the track to life! Unfortunately, due to illness (get well soon!) we won't be catching folda live in April, but with a packed Summer and future releases planned, 2019 will no doubt go on to be a breakthrough year for the band.
