MM | NEW MUSIC WEEKLY 08

Haven't we got a storming collection for you this week! Six incredible releases covering a diverse range of genres all released from across Scotland.

Solareye - Brickwall

Released: 26th April

Scottish poet Solareye was our most intriguing and unexpected (this indie kid now loves rap) discovery in 2018 and following hot on the heels of last year’s remarkable album ‘All These people Are Me’ Stanley Odd frontman, Dave Hook, returns with the biting ‘Brickwall’. There’s a steady beat pulsing at the heart of the track as the palpable sense of anger builds as layer upon layer of eerie, unsettling vocals keeps the listener on edge throughout. No-one spits out rhymes quite like this.

The Stoned Immaculate - Hawaii

Released: 25th April

Glasgow’s The Stoned Immaculate are back with their most commanding single yet, as ‘Hawaii’ manages to pack the raw punk attitude of the underground Glasgow scene while taking you away to a sun-drenched tiki hut as West-Coast riffs come crashing down. Leaving their first collection of tracks seemingly behind them (removed from Spotify), the quartet sound rejuvenated and comfortable in their new found sound.

The Plastic Youth - Comfort

Released: 8th Feb

To their eternal credit, The Plastic Youth are something of a musical mystery, the indie 4-piece seem to sway between genres and produce an age-defying sound. With latest track ‘Comfort’ we hear Nada Surf-influenced melodies, as the intricate drumming and vocal harmonies build to each triumphant chorus.

Felix and The Sunsets - Whose Happiness is this?

Released: 26th April

Recently drawing our attention at local venue Sneaky Pete’s, Leith-based trio Felix and the Sunsets have just dropped their 2nd big-hitting single of 2019. The politically motivated, garage rock anthem ‘Whose Happiness is this?’ doesn’t waste a second of it’s short, sharp running time with ground-shaking riffs and soaring solos - a band to keep an eye as 2019 unfolds.

Dancing on Tables - Wonderland

Released: 12th April

Since ‘Wonderland’ dropped, Fife favourites Dancing on Tables have went on to pack out a Scottish tour and announce festival dates, further proof that this this quintet are on the rise. Recent singles have seen DoT push their own sound from the heavier ‘Stereo’ to the softer ‘Black’ and latest singe ‘Wonderland’ sees them at their sugary-pop finest. The track is underpinned by a Temper Trap-influenced melody allowing for a more upbeat vibe. The time to catch Dancing on Tables live is NOW!

CRYSTAL - Sugar Sweet

Released: 26th April

One of the most consistently impressive rock outfits to come from Scotland recently are back with a bold statement of intent with third single ‘Sugar Sweet’. CRYSTAL continue to progress with each release as here we see the 4-piece channel a more grungier sound with thumping baselines and crunching riffs. As ever, vocalist Anna Shields commands attention throughout as she transfers the live energy from stage to the studio with aplomb.
