Haven't we got a storming collection for you this week! Six incredible releases covering a diverse range of genres all released from across Scotland.
Echo Machine - Chameleon
Released: 5th April
Ever since catching this Dundee 3-piece at local venue Sneaky Pete’s, we’ve been eagerly awaiting further releases, and with ‘Chameleon’ they have blown all expectations out the water. In contrast to the tracks’ title, Echo Machine stand out from the crowd as they manage to fuse an 80s synth sound, with a contemporary indie pop feel; it’s wall-to-wall of new wave noise - kudos must also go to the production team behind this!
WEEKEND DEBT - TOUR DE FRANCE
Released: 5th April
Weekend Debt have been heavily involved with the burgeoning Glasgow music scene since 2016. Returning for the first time in 2 years with new single ‘Tour De France’ we are treated to infectious and polished guitars with upbeat singalong lyrics. With their Scottish indie twang Weekend Debt could be the band that manages to fill the gaping whole left by ‘The View’.
Mt. Doubt - Unravelling
Released: March 29th
Edinburgh 5 piece (or should we say collective) Mt. Doubt release new single ‘Unravelling’. Produced and recorded with Idlewild’s Rod Jones, we can hear his influence ebbing through the delightful indie pop number. Frontman, Leo Bargery’s unique vocals and lyricism are impeccable throughout, carefully accompanied by the rest of the bands soft calming backing vocals. Topped off with a beautiful crafted progressive guitar for the duration of track, ‘Unravelling’ is a stride forward that will draw on comparisons with The National and The Twilight Sad - which can never be a bad thing.
SHREDD - ROT
Released: 12th April
Shredd serve out latest offering ‘Rot’, another excellent garage rock number full of frenzied riffs. These lads undoubtedly improve which each release and have managed to get that Royal Blood peppered with a bit of Muse sound tied down perfectly. Shredd continue to impress on the live scene and we look forward to seeing how they continue to add some variety to future sets.
Declan Welsh & The Decadent West - Absurd
Released: 19th April
One of the finest young wordsmiths of current times, Declan Welsh & the Decadent West, are back with their first single since bagging a deal with Modern Sky UK (The Blinders, Calva Louise, SPINN). Highlighting the fight between integrity and paying the bills is at the core of this track as musically they continue to develop with a more electronic feel at times, interjected with jaggy guitars. Judging by this release, the promised album will surely be as socially important as recent albums by Fontaines D.C or Seaford Mods.
Voodoos - NRA
Released: 19th April
The follow up single to their storming debut ‘Late Night Early Morning’ EP sees one of the most loved bands from the Glasgow scene, Voodoos, turn to more political matters. It’s encouraging to see young bands tackle weighty subjects, as ’NRA’ conveys the sheer disbelief that such gun crime is still prevalent, with the only real argument being some out-dated amendment and more recently the blame being placed on violent video games. The usual garage punk-influenced, melodic vibes run throughout acting in contrast to the subject in hand.
We’ve added all six and more to our Mockit Music Spotify playlist, it’s updated weekly; Follow and never miss out on the best new music!
