Scotland has long been a hotbed for musical talents, but as well as this nature ability, musicians also need that bit of guidance, especially when it comes to touring. That’s were Hit the Road come in.
They offer an amazing opportunity to young musicians between 14-19 living in Scotland as part of the National Youth Music Touring Project.
Their aim is to equip young artists with the knowledge, contacts and tools required to build a career within the live music industry. The initiative is co-founded by Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI) and PRS Foundation.
Over the years Hit The Road has helped steer a number of high profile musicians on the path to success like Lewis Capaldi, Be Charlotte and Indigo Velvet to name but a few. This could be the inspiration the next generation need to kick start their career.
This year they’ve managed to attract three of the best emerging bands from across Scotland; The Plastic Youth, Ruvellas and Spyyn
The Plastic Youth
Glasgow-based quartet The Plastic Youth released their debut single ’Sweet Dreamer’ in late September, which has already racked over 20,000 plays on Spotify and picked up by the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music and Amazing Radio. The 6-min epic draws from a wide range of influences from both sides of the Atlantic, with the likes of Frankie Cosmos, Alvvays and the melodic harmonising of Teenage Fanclub all come shining through in moments.
SPYYN
Forming only this year, SPYYN have already attracted interest from around Scotland for their chilled out indie vibes. We caught them earlier this year as part of This Feeling at Sneaky Pete’s, their debut single DIRTY DISCO went down a storm with it’s atmospheric, off beat sound reminiscent of early Foals. Since then they’ve gone on to release PALM and CITY - two very different tracks. You’d be a fool to pigeon hole this ambitious foursome.
Ruvellas
The youngest of the bands with all five members seventeen-year-old teenagers hailing from Dundee and originally called RoomOne. They’ve played sold out shows in their hometown, supporting rising acts such as The Snuts, Saint-Louie and The Dunts and recently played a live session on local station Wave FM. The young band have festival dates in the calendar and their debut single ‘Sick and Tired’ is due for release soon.
