Honeyvale Hit That Sweet Spot

It's been a whirlwind 12 months for Glasgow indie band Honeyvale with two well-received singles in Up All Night and Fire We Breathe, both suggesting this foursome have plenty more up their sleeve and that's before we mention the gorgeous acoustic tracks.

Futhermore, they went on to support local heroes The Snuts and tore it up at the King Tuts bar during Tenement Trail.

Fresh from releasing their latest single Stolen Sound, we caught up with their guitar-wielding frontman, Frodz, to chat Blossoms, snoring bandmates and...JLS.

Q. For those unaware, who are Honeyvale?

We are 4 guys from Glasgow who play punchy, indie (and we hope catchy) songs about being 4 guys from Glasgow

Q. It's been a crazy first year as a band, have there been particular highlights?

We got invited down to Manchester at the start of the year to play alongside Fuzzy Sun and Blossoms

which was crazy cos we're huge fans and gave us a chance to try out our questionable Stockport accents on the guys. Aside from the gig itself Manchester was a really cool city to see which is what it's all about.

Q. Which Scottish bands do you look up to for inspiration?

Inspiration comes from a lot of different places. It's difficult to pin it down to any particular bands. In terms of Scottish bands though, it has to be The View and Glasvegas.

A few of us went through school listening to Twin Atlantic's Vivarium and Free. We actually bumped into them while we were playing a show in London at the start of the year and the guy's from Twin Atlantic had heard Up All Night through the musical grape vine and they came along to our show and hung around to grab some drinks with us afterwards which was just surreal considering a few years ago we were queuing up to see them at The Barras.

Q. You released an acoustic version of your earlier single 'Up All Night' - is this something you enjoyed and look to do in future?

We're all for putting out as much content as possible for people to see. Up All Night was our first single so the acoustic track was a great way to give everyone some variety while we were prepping for the release of Fire We Breathe. We post quite a lot of live acoustic videos on Instagram to show people what we're working on in between releases. So yeah we're definitely keen on mixing it up with different versions of our songs.

Q. You recently played Tenement Trail, how was that? What other bands impressed that day?

Tenement Trail was great to be a part of despite a last minute change of venue then some technical hitches during the gig. It's a massive event for music in Glasgow and it was one of the gigs we'd been pushing to get all year so it was great to be asked to play that. There were loads of amazing bands that day, Holyesque, The Dunts, The Van T's to name a few, but the one we were most buzzing to see was Easy Life so we were absolutely gutted when they had to pull out.

Q. Supporting The Snuts was massive, how did this come about?

Supporting The Snuts was madness. Their fans are next level crazy so it was a sweaty night. As for how it came about we just got a message one day asking if we'd be interested so obviously we bit their hand off! Really cool guys and the tunes are class so it's no wonder they're becoming as big as they are.

Q. Who would be your dream tour mates?

Anyone that doesn't snore like our guitarist David James.

Q. Plans for 2019?

The plans for 2019 is to keep pumping out new music and hopefully as a result playing bigger venues to more people.

We've got a few bangers in the locker so we're looking forward to dropping them and seeing where they take us.

Favourite band? This band will split up if you make us argue over picking one favourite
